Protect Your Space

On Thursday January 31st temperatures dropped below freezing. At some points during the day with wind chill it felt like -5 however the university did not cancel class. In replacement of going to class we were assigned to "protect our space".
For 20-25 minutes we had to block of a 6x6ft space in a building. Since we were suggested to find a place that was crowded we went to Food.com in NewHouse. Kamey Gomez and I used our physical bodies to block off the area. The task was not as daunting as I thought it would be. Food.com was closed so we didn't have to worry about blocking the entrance. It was still very crowded because students were doing the homework, and group work. I verbally communicated to others that they couldn't "step in this area".
Performance moves between pretends and what is constructed. It allows us to create new ways of how we believe things are real. This activity allowed us to pretend that we owned that space in the room. We did a physical action which shifted the now of Food.com. The other individuals watching our performance were trying to interpret or understand what Kamey and I were doing. Some believe a performance is live which happens once then goes away. We did not stay their all day it only occurred for 20 minutes
